We hoped, we prayed all week. Every one of us looking at the long-range forecast weeks ago. Oh my goodness, is it happening again? The TEAM has been planning since before the first of the year on this; the One and Only Texas Crab Festival! So many of these guys and gals, The Team, have been coming together for monthly meetings, bi-monthly meetings, then weekly meetings and finally,

ESD passes
Voters approved the creation of Galveston County Emergency Services District (ESD) #2 on Saturday by a wide margin. The final vote count was 202 for, 39 against. The ESD will provide necessary funding to support emergency medical and fire protection services on the peninsula. Commissioners will be appointed in the next few weeks.
Lucas Family sweeps the gold
Who would have imagined that after that TOTAL downpour on Friday night, we would be holding our 1st Annual Texas Crab Festival 5K Fun Run/Walk and Kids K? As the mist came down early Saturday morning, and mud puddles everywhere, over 90 people gathered at one corner of Gregory Park, picking up their packets and pinning on their number bibs. Robin Kasiske and Marlene Mallet planned and
Happy Birthday, May
A new resident of the Peninsula. Monday morning, at about 7:30, as Rob and Charlotte were sitting on their deck having coffee, this lovely episode took place. Daddy Donkey was very concerned because Mommy Donkey decided to lay down for a bit. Not understanding, he kept nipping at her neck to try to get her to stand up. Mommy finally got up, very irritated with Daddy and all of a sudden, duh
Ladybug
Sunday on Mother’s Day, we lost our beloved Ladybug. She was 12 years old and the Best dog I ever owned. She was a true loving Golden Retriever that only wanted to please us and she did!!! Lady came from a puppy farm and had many problems but never complained and never stopped playing hard and loved the beach. She was my Princess and I will miss her a lot. There will never be another
Fishing Report Week ending May 12
By Ed Snyder/Outdoors
Fishing action produced excellent trout and red catches in the beginning of the week but took a serious dive when the weekly storms barged through to roil the surf once again. As of Sunday, the surf and tides are clearing, improving the fishing action. Hopefully, these staccato storm systems will cease and allow our Spring fishing action to
Vireos
By Jim Stevenson
First, I am enthusiastically recommending Saturday’s field trip, despite the likelihood of some rain. The precipitation will “down” the birds arriving off the Gulf and could make it quite a good day. We’ll meet at my house at 8 am and quit late afternoon when we can’t look at any more Empidonax flycatchers.
Armstrong Ace Fuels Romp in Sunday Scramble
The round started like many others for Will Armstrong, Charlie Brannan, and Mike VanZandt May 11th at the Ranch. Two quick pars and the team headed for the 125 yard Par 3 third hole, called the Road hole because it parallels Highway 87. VanZandt and Brannan had already missed the green with their tee shots when the 81 year old Armstrong set his ball on the tee. Armstrong, tired of being
Sleeping on the couch
By Georgia Osten
I don’t know if I’ve ever told you, but the whole idea around adding on to this house was so everyone would have a bed. No sleeping on the floor, no having to bring your travel trailer, plugging in and sleeping in the driveway! Okay, that being said, knowing our son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Camber, were coming down for the
How important is reading and remembering?
By Brenda Cannon Henley
While talking to a young man the other day about the Lord and His work, we each spoke about reading the Bible. I was interested to hear the very well educated fellow say, “It doesn’t really do me any good to read the Bible or go to church. I just can’t seem to remember very much of it any time later.” He’s in good company. Well, perhaps
It’s all about the layers!
When decorating a room, your vision should always start with the bottom layer. In this room that layer is actually a beautiful wood floor. The next layer is a natural rug, maybe raffia and then topped with an animal print. The good thing about this animal print rug is that it is angled and it actually tricks the eye to make the room appear larger. This rug on top of the main rug ties the furniture into a grouping. Since
