Attorney General ruling…whether off road vehicles may be legally operated on a public beach…

The AG released his opinion that counties do not have the authority to register off road vehicles or an all-terrain vehicle for personal use on beaches. It specifically states:

SUMMARY: Whether an all-terrain vehicle or recreational off-highway vehicle may be lawfully operated on a public beach or a particular area of a public beach cannot be answered categorically without reference to particular

Communication — with the right people

(May-29-2012) This is not a communication column, nor an etiquette column. It is not part of a driver education course or a safety tip. It is not even an advice column, but four instances in three days make me think it might be an important column for many different age groups. Read it with a grain of salt, or maybe we should make that a grain of sugar. Seems sweeter to me. And it might make the truth go

Woof Woof!

(May-29-2012) Everyone has something they love and is a true part of their everyday life. What better place to showcase that than in your beach home. This room, as an animal lover, is one of my favorites for the beach. I would love to see even one of my dogs on our surfboard. I will leave that to my grandkids and nephew and their friends. This picture, which is an actual photograph, was put on canvas. Several photo shops can

God Bless You, Norm!

The tribute to Norm began to unfold early Saturday morning, as Donna Anding, shovel in hand, began digging away at the sand, the vision in her artist’s mind of the sand sculpture she was about to create to memorialize dear Norm. Norm Brode, husband to Sarah, dad of Staci and dear friend to all who knew him on Beaumont Drive in Crystal Beach, died only two weeks ago. He was

Happy Memorial Day!

by Georgia Osten
(May-29-2012) Another fantastic weekend! The young folks came to visit this weekend, they filled the house with laughter and noise. We set up the canopies early Saturday morning before they arrived, because if you happened to venture down to the beach this weekend, you realized how necessary it was to “claim your spot.” Throngs of campers, families, young and

Fishing Report & Tide Chart For Rollover Pass TX May 21 to May 28, 2012

By Ed Snyder/Outdoors
Summary: This past week of gusting winds limited the trout and flounder bites but as the winds diminished the tides cleared and the speck and flounder bites returned with mostly school trout to 3 lbs but the flounder action gave up a nice 22 incher. EXCELLENT crabbing on the cut with lots

Have a seat in the shade

by Kelly Moad
Have a seat in the shade and let the water tickle your toes. Sounds good to me. Mark Porretto is providing that very accommodation to all beach goers. He sets up shop in a few locations along the 27 miles of public beach. Mark and his crew beautify the area; they groom the sand, arrange many lounge chairs with brightly colored umbrellas, and rent them out daily to anyone who wishes to

Sandollar RV Park ribbon cutting!

An enthusiastic crowd gathered Saturday, promptly at noon, for the Grand Opening of the Sandollar RV Park and Chambers County Customs Golf Cart Rental. The smell of BBQ filled the air as the ribbon was cut by Regina Bowerman. Regina and son Robby operate the RV Park, located at 1386 HWY 87 in Crystal Beach, as well as the one they’ve owned in Beach City for

Beach Clean-Up

Maybe we should plan our beach clean ups after a holiday from now on? Seriously…I think folks like to see our beaches clean when they get here on Friday, don’t they? Then, tell me, why do they leave our “home” in such a mess when they leave? Monday morning, we went for a morning drive on the beach to enjoy what God has given us, how blessed we are! Oh my goodness, the trash we encountered

Sargassum Birds

If you have young kids or grandkids, there is nothing more interesting, exciting and educational than wading out into the fresh sargassum washing in and scooping up a few clumps in a pool net, removing the clumps and showing eager eyes the critters left behind that hide within it for thousands of miles. It even beats TV.

Memorial day weekend

I just wanted to leave a comment about the beach on memorial day weekend. It was hideous.the sea weed was so bad on the beach that my family and I couldn’t even enjoy ourselves.i thought the whole reason of paying to park on the beach was to ensure that it was gonna be a clean and sanitized beach. Shells found

sent to Local News by Charliene F:
“We found two seashells with a note written inside the shell. One of the shells had a note that addressed “Paul” and signed “Love Always, Roxie”. The other shell’s subject on the back said, “Until I see you again” and on the inside it was addressed to “Paul” and was signed, “Sister Kathy”.

I’d like to know where to deliver these shells
