Lazy D&D RV Resort opens

We have been watching it since January when the heavy equipment started digging the canals. On the north side of Hwy 87, across from the Golf Course, Lazy D&D RV Resort has been taking shape. David Altemus and his wife Debra are the D&D, but neither of them are lazy. They have been working very hard to turn their piece of undeveloped land into a premier RV resort. With several

Gator Causes Alarm At Rollover

By Ed Snyder/Outdoors
Rollover Pass, Gilchrist, TX.
Last week anglers lined up one early morning to fish for “whatever”. After their rods were placed in holders, awaiting the “whatever” bites, the conversation was warming up with the previous days run of “whatevers”. Just then,

Last week I showed you boat houses on land; this week it’s more creative uses for old boats.

Editorial – Captain Flagg

Ah, to enjoy the waves, sand and sunshine in abundance on our beaches! Right? Well, that is, until the scene is broken by a truck carrying obnoxious flags for sell. The one displayed right up front, he claims is one of his “best sellers.” Is this what our beach community stands for? How embarrassing! I have a neighbor with 4 small children who has been coming to beach since her father would

Kahla’s Custom Chairs

Shirley and Monroe Kahla were long time residents of Crystal Beach until Hurricane Ike destroyed their home. Now living in Winnie, the Kahlas keep busy selling their custom made chairs. You will most often see them at the Winnie Trade Days each month, and this past Saturday, they set up in Crystal Beach to show their beautiful hand painted furniture.

The chair is Shirley’s design, a very comfortable and

Sand Sculptures on the beach

Building a sand sculpture on the beach can be buckets of fun! On Bolivar, you have all the beach and sand you need. With a pail and a shovel, you can be as creative as you want…and people will be amazed as your imagination comes to life on the beach. Here are a few examples we found this weekend.

Addyson

Is the love of Flora hereditary?

We recently had our lovely family visiting us from North Carolina and my 4 year old granddaughter, Addyson, loves flowers (so does her little brother). They love to pick the periwinkle flowers growing on Grandma’s deck. They had managed to pick them all before they left to visit other relatives in Texas. They were gone almost

Let another man praise thee

OK, Bible students out there, have you ever had a verse or a portion of a verse that stayed in your mind and just would not let you capture it in its entirety? Perhaps you thought of it at an awkward moment when you couldn’t look it up in your notes, find it in the Bible, or even check for it on a computer? This often happens to me when I’m driving or doing

Shiny, Not Shiny, Shiny, Not Shiny…

The room I chose this week highlights two ways to make your beach bedroom have that extra layer of charm and to also highlight a different way of lighting. Notice the stripes on the walls of this room. It looks like two different colors, but you can get the same look by painting your room one solid color and after the paint dries use painters tape to create your stripes whatever width you want. The next step

from Colleen:
I just recently moved to Crystal Beach. My 11 year old cat has wandered off. I am devastated. I am offering a reward. She’s a grey Tabby (light stripes). Her name is Peaches. She’s very scared and would probably not come if anyone other than I called. She was last seen in Crystal Canals on Wednesday. Please call, 409-201-3789 or 409-550-7944. minou0121@yahoo.com

Rollover Pass, TX. Sunday, July 22, 2012
While wade fishing the western side of Rollover Pass at around 6:30am this morning, Bruno Brumett, of Huntsville TX, waded a little too far into a strong incoming tide and was immediately swept off his feet. Being pulled into the mouth of Rollover Pass he yelled for help! His fishing pal,

Fishing Report and Tide Chart for Rollover Pass, TX July 23 – July 30, 2012

By Ed Snyder/Outdoors
Summary: Before the freshwater runoff started both sides of the cut were producing excellent trout and redfish action. But, when the rain from last week started to roll through the pass to the Gulf the action slowed during outgoing tides but picked up on incoming tides. Regardless of this surf action on the east side of the pass still offered excellent trout fishing for waders fishing Mirror lures with several large trout to 6lbs caught.

Homes By The Sea

Like most people who vacation at the beach, we discussed eventually living by the sea.

After 15 years of vacationing at Surfside, someone mentioned Crystal Beach so we had to locate Crystal Beach on a map and plan a trip there. A short ferry ride from Galveston and we found our version of paradise.
