Team Red, White & Blue

Team Red White & Blue spent a rainy, but lovely weekend at Crystal Beach this past weekend. Over 50 veterans and their families shared 3 houses in the Surfside area within walking distance of one another. The main event for this weekend was the Shark Fishing Trip, third year in a row for shark fishing, lead by Daniel Sherman, of TX-Sharkfishing.com. The shark fishers were set up on the beach, visible from The Sea Glass Estate where many of the families lodged.

Members of the Bolivar community turned out to welcome Team RWB. On Saturday evening, Tim Byrom (Brint Construction) and Anne Willis (Swede’s Real Estate) sponsored dinner for the visitors at the Big Red Barn. Food was provided by Stingaree and Chef Abear – Scott Hebert. Dan Cowart, the Houston Team RWB Chapter Captain, and his wife Sarah greeted everyone at the door.

The Houston Chapter is 700 members strong, 450 of those are veterans. The Chapter has grown from 200 members in 2012. Their Mission is “to enrich the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity.”

Sunday morning, before everyone began departing for home, breakfast was hosted by residents of the neighboring Driftwood and Pearl Beach Subdivisions. Sunday came with a break in the weather, the sun came out and all the cooks and servers began gathering at 6 am. Fifteen dozen eggs, pounds of steaks, dozens of biscuits, grits and lots of hot coffee were cooked and served. Tables were set up under Sea Glass and everyone visited and dined, the end of another wonderful, fun-packed weekend for these worthy Veterans.

Until the next time, Team Red White and Blue, we honor and respect every one of you and we look forward to seeing you again. Thank you for your service to our Country!
