Sandy Shores Foursome Stinks Up the Ranch, Margo Johnson Almost Wins Par 3 Contest

By Mike VanZandt
There are a lot of things to love about the Sandy Shores Subdivision at Crystal Beach. It’s a close knit bunch of wonderful people who never hesitate to contribute to their community. It’s well known for throwing some of the best parties on the beach and its residents giving generously of their time and money to help others. On Thursday, Sandy Shores stalwarts Andy Rose, Donald Mallet, Johnny Crenshaw, and Bob Jackson teed off from the Turquoise Tees and doubled bogeyed 28 out of the 36 holes they played together. Bob Jackson had eight doubles on his way to a career high 44, Donald Mallet and Johnny Crenshaw fired 7 doubles for a 43 and 42 respectively. The best golfer in the group was Andy Rose, whose 41 included only six of the dreaded double whackers. It was rumored that their combined total of 62 over par in only nine holes was possibly the result being over served adult beverages during the round. For the record, Michael Comeaux, who hasn’t made a double bogey in recent memory, won the contest with a three over par 30 and Shannon O’Brien sank a 35 foot putt for a birdie and the only skin of the day worth $120.

Margo Johnson Almost Wins Par 3 Contest
A double bogey on the eighth hole, often called the hardest Par 3 in Texas, kept Margo Johnson out of first place on August 5 at the Ranch. Margo scattered two bogeys and six pars to go with the double blooper for a nice 31. Tied for first place at 30 were occasional golfer Michael Comeaux, Dabbler Harrison, and all-time leading money winner Shannon O’Brien. Roy Strimple’s 32 allowed him to continue his domination of the Millender brothers with Terry firing a 34 and Gerry a 36. David Buchanan ballooned to a 36 only a week after his hole-in-one and course record 26. Bob Jackson, Terry Millender, Mike VanZandt had one skin each while the Dabtician continued his recently improved play with two skin winning birdies.
