Shabby Chic at Its Finest!

By Cindy Clay Srader
If you are like me you like to go junking and find those pieces that you can remake for your home. This picture shows how you can put so many different pieces together and make it work. If you have a busy, large family, this room will not give you any anxiety when a child or grandchild spills! I love this old wooden kitchen table that has many coats of paint on it! All it needed was a good cleaning and maybe some judicious use of sand paper. The mis-matched chairs just add to the eclectic feel of the room. In fact in the future just a few coats of spray paint would freshen anything up. The rag rug under the table brings that homey feel and pulls all of the chair colors together. By taking their cue from the table, these homeowners painted the “found” hutch to compliment the color scheme. I want this example to show how you can use bits and pieces you have collected and make a really wonderful place to be either at the beach or in you town home!

“HOW TO” … Create a Lampshade that is swimmingly!

This would be a really family fun project for the summer. You can replicate this beachy fish lampshade easily. The first step is to find a white lampshade in the shape and size you need. You may already have a lamp that you want to embellish and this would look great in any beach home. To start make or download from the internet a fish shape that you can use for a pattern. Use white heavy stock paper and trace the fish shapes. The kids will have a great time seeing who can make the most! When you are finished cutting as many as you can, start placing them using a drop of hot glue in a row by row manner. Overlapping the “fish” would look great also. Notice the shade in the picture where they have some of them hanging below the shade. What a beautiful shade you will have, not to say what a great conversation piece this would be. This is one I will need to make time to do myself!
Enjoy your children this summer. There is always the beach!

What is “BEACH CHIC”? A design style comprised of a combination of clean lines and organic finishes that work together to create a relaxing and inviting atmosphere. The color scheme is inspired by the beach and the natural environment of sun, sea and sand!
