Today I am only having a DYI idea! I saw this on the internet, fell In Love with it, and think it would be great under any beach house. When you install this you may want to do it on cross beams for sturdiness. This bed shows that the rope is put in a more swinging format, but could easily be mounted using rope from each corner. I love the idea of using heavy rope instead of chain. When hanging the bed, hang it 18 inches from the floor for a regular bench height. We have to replace the chains on our under the house swings every other year. I still cannot get used to the extreme rusting conditions we have.
Always use stainless screws and eye bolts when building anything. Another tip if you decide to build this is to use a single mattress and cover it with TWO vinyl mattress covers. Use the ones that zip all around. I had something similar to this before Ike and I also put a washable mattress pad for comfort. Nap time on this will have you fighting for your turn. Materials Needed:
2×4 boards, stud length (17) treated
3″ wood screws (100) stainless
4″ lag screws with eye (8) stainless
pilot hole bit to match wood screws and lag screws
50 feet of nylon rope or chain, load limit at least 200 lbs
small tube exterior wood filler
spray paint or exterior clear coat for natural wood look
sandpaper in coarse, medium and fine grits
measuring tape
carpenter’s square
drill
Saw Tip: Many hardware stores will make cuts complimentary with the purchase of lumber
Dimensions
Dimensions are sized to fit a standard twin mattress with 4 inches of space surrounding the mattress. Hanging height can vary depending on the roof structure.
