Super Seniors Dominate Sunday Scramble
James Erwin, Ron, and Ray Pietramale all played from the Red tees in the Sunday Scramble. Paired with the best golfer at the Ranch, occasional golfer Michael Comeaux, their four under par 32 edged three teams by one shot. Shannon O’Brien, Jentry Weisinger, Sonny Makin and John Snell bogeyed the tough No. 8 on 8/24 to slip to 3 over par. Also at three over were rock star Michael Mitchell, concrete guru Robin Giddens, beach fisherman extraordinaire King “Sonny Wong”, and Gentleman George Flores. Seaside Lumber’s Jason Pettit teamed with Houston home builder and legendary drummer Aaron Comeaux, “El Hombre Sin Miedo” Dewey Jones, and “Hit it Left” Bob Jackson to also shoot 3 under par. Local philanthropist Dabney Harrison, who has quietly assisted countless single mothers trying to establish themselves on the beach, teamed with Sweet Swinging Charlie Brannan, Bug busting Lance Ferguson, and deadly putting Will Armstrong to finish one shot back of the three teams at three under par.

Throw Your Putter in the Bayou, David Buchanan
David “Ace” Buchanan is one of the better golfers at the Ranch. His recent hole-in-one on the sixth hole at the Ranch is but one example of his fine play. The only club in his bag that Buchanan has yet to master is the putter. Several months ago, Golfsmith in Houston sold Ace a bargain putter for $39 which he promptly put into play. The homely black flat stick has been the bane of his golfing existence, particularly on putts inside of three feet. Despite pleas from his golfing buddies, David clings to the off brand putter like a mother to a newborn child, in spite of heartbreaking miss after heartbreaking miss. Of course, Golfsmith of Houston knew this when they put the offending club in his shopping cart. “He’ll be back to buy another putter in days” they must of thought when they sold the bargain monster to poor David. Unfortunately, the incredibly stubborn Buchanan continues to play with the misshapen instrument, believing it will finally come around. After a particularly short missed putt on the final hole in Tuesday’s Par 3 contest, this writer thought for a fleeting moment Buchanan might hurl the offending putter into the cut, but alas, he mournfully and carefully returned it to its place in his bag. Oh, yawn, Michael Comeaux won Tuesdays tourney with an 8 par one bogey 28.
