Running of the Bulls

holtz_00Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain? Nah…not the Holtzclaw Family. They prefer the Gulf Coast Bulls. Dating all the way back to 1966, patriarch Doug Holtzclaw and family travel to Crystal Beach for their annual “Running of the Bulls” fishing and beaching fun vacation. The “bulls” is a reference to the large redfish called “bull reds”. This family event has grown each year to include extended families and friends of all ages – over 40 folks attended this year. Complete with “Running of the Bulls” t-shirts, the group gathers each year on the weekend after Labor Day, soaking in that last bit of summer. Over the weekend, they caught several bull-reds, a handful of large specs, and even a small shark. The fishermen managed to reach way out with the help of Rich Courville’s bait-blaster that launches the baited hook about 300 yards into the gulf where the big fish roam. What an awesome family and friend vacation tradition!
