Mikeska Carries Harrison & Brannan to Rare Sunday Win
Wayne Mikeska lifted the Dabbler and Sweet Charlie Brannan to a two under par 34 that somehow won the 9/28/14 scramble by one shot over stunned favorites Shannon O’Brien, Lance Ferguson, and Justin Jackson and always tough Dewey Jones, Mike VanZandt, and newbie J.R. Ferguson. One par and one bogey left Michael Comeaux, Paul Williams, and Justin Jackson’s lovely lady friend Lindsey at even par 36. Roy Strimple, Will Armstrong and Bob Jackson’s one-over-par 37 had them in solo 6th place. Sylvester, Ranch house cat, has come to begrudging acceptance of Dabney Harrison’s new calico kitten and is back inside the clubhouse, eating well and over his pout. Special thanks to Dabney Harrison, Michael Comeaux, Gary Korry and Charlie Brannan for all their hard work since the departure of longtime head golf pro Michael Mitchell. The course is in fine shape. The Crystal Beach Ladies Golf Association plays every Wednesday at 4 p.m. Come join them for some fun in the sun on the Number One ranked golf course on the peninsula. Play golf Bolivar!! VanZandt Wins as Buchanan Collapses
David Buchanan’s $39 Golfsmith cast-off putter let him down again on Tuesday, 9/30/14, from the Gold Par 3 tees. The out of place flat stick in Buchanan’s otherwise first class bag of fine surgical instruments three putted the 3d and 7th holes and left him a bevy of 4-5 footers because of poor alignment or speed, or both. The final downfall for Buchanan came on the final hole, when the pressure of so many knuckle whitening putts finally saw David hit a fat shot into the weeds on his way to a double bogey. Poor David’s struggles are sadly reminiscent of Dabney Harrison’s stubborn refusal to part with his sawed off bull’s eye relic. Buchanan desperately needs follow the Dabster’s lead and cast the homely and offensive black torture stick into the Gulf lest it find its way into some other golfer’s bag. Paul Williams, Mike VanZandt and Wayne Mikeska each had birdie skins as VanZandt edged Harrison and Buchanan by one shot. Sweet swinging Charlie Brannan, showing the effects of a hard week of golf course maintenance, didn’t have his usual solid game. Roy Strimple, somehow promoted to an “A” player by the Dabtician on Sunday, joined the growing 40+ club from the Gold tees. Roy plays his best when he dominates the Millenders and his brothers. Wild Bob Jackson fired a 36 as did Paul Williams. The Tuesday/Thursday Par 3 contests will move up to 4:00 beginning today, October 5th. (October 1, 2014)

Lady Golfers Begin Fall Scramble Series
A loose (keep your minds out of the gutter) association of local ladies have begun a nine hole Two-Golfer Par 3 Scramble on Wednesday afternoons at the Ranch at 3:00 P.M. All skill levels welcome. Relaxed involvement encouraged. On Wednesday, playing as a foursome, Lynette Hardcastle, Patti Atkins and Marlene Mallet watched Mallet’s partner Robin Kasiske stiff an iron to two feet on the first hole and ram home the putt for a birdie on their way to a first place tie at 5 over par 32. Marsha Fredenburg and Carolyn Akers tied for third place with Debbie Hanagriff and Glenda Mastin. (October 3, 2014)

Giddens Romps Past Thursday Hackers
Robin Giddens lapped the field by three shots Thursday afternoon at the Ranch. Two missed three foot putts kept Giddens from shooting even par on the Turquois layout. Giddens had his high draw working for his first Par 3 win in some time. Dabney Harrison and Mike VanZandt fired 5 over par 32’s to tie for second place. Mike Comeaux’s 33 edged Wayne Mikeska and Lee Hays by one shot. Patti Atkin’s 36 finished ahead of Paul Williams, Charlie Brannan, Bob Jackson, and Terry Millender in the nine hole event.
