Rollover Pass Report, Nov-30 thru Dec-6, 2015

By Ed Snyder/Outdoors
As some of you have probably heard, the Federal Judge has ruled in favor of Galveston County. This means that if we can’t turn this decision around, the State of Texas will close on their promise to fill in the pass. This will be a disaster to not only the fishermen, but Bolivar Peninsula as well. Tax money spent by the 80,000 or more people who visit Rollover every year will be null and void for Bolivar tourism income. The angling public will no longer be able to belly up to the pass to catch fish and have fun. East Bay, which I believe is one of the finest fishing bays in the Galveston Bay System, will quickly become a skeeter infested black water swamp for alligators. The State plans to replace the fishing interests with a 1,000 ft pier. Now, I would like to see just how 80,000 anglers can fit on a pier!! We, the Gilchrist Community Association, are continuing to fight the fight for keeping Rollover open for you, the fishing public. I’ll have more info on this when I get it; as for the fishing…reds in the surf, trout hitting at night, drum are still drumming, and the flounder run is seeing egg laden females coming through headed for the Gulf.
