(May-15-2012) I love the feeling of fresh air and bright sunshine this room brings, sunny yellow, bright blue and crisp white! The white duvet and pillow shams with the initials of the owner embroidered on them, makes this space special. There are several monogram stores where you can get your linens embroidered and even your drapes and shower curtains. (Just look in the yellow pages for your local stores.) Note the draped yellow blanket at the foot of the bed that picks up the yellow flowers on the nightstand. It is just a touch of yellow but what a difference it makes. As seen in this room, don’t underestimate white when it comes to the main color for your room. Your walls can be bright or white and will have the same impact. These white walls and bedding make this room as fresh as a beach breeze. This room will work anywhere but the beach is where its home should be.
The How To this week takes a little something from this highlighted bedroom. If you have a vase or bottle that is an unusual shape or color, it is very easy today to make a lamp for that special place. Home Depot and Lowes both carry a kit that will let you turn it into a lamp. They have different sizes depending on the opening of the bottle, etc. These kits have an adapter that has the plug attached. No drilling required. To make the lamp all you need is to put the adapter into the opening and there is your lamp. You will need the harp for the shade but these stores also have harps and shades in many sizes and colors. What an inexpensive and original lamp you will have to make that bedroom or living room have that WOW factor we all look for. No one else will have one like it! I love things that I have made. This is a simple do it yourself that will “light up your life”. Enjoy!
Hope to hear from all of you soon and please let me know if there is something specific that you are interested in. Enjoy your summer!
