The 27th Annual Crab Festival hosted the 1st Annual Washers Tournament on Saturday, May 12th. Promptly, at 1:00 the teams began to assemble, ready to play double elimination to get to the top, to become the Washer Champs!
Jordan Kirwin explained the rules, drew up the score board and monitored the tournament. Teams such as ‘Get It In’, ‘Chairmen of the Board’, and ‘Flaming Marshmallows’ lined up for the competition…all were ready…a cold beer in one hand, their washers in the other.
Twenty-three teams vied for over two hours to reach the finale. Team TWITA-NORM took home the 3rd prize of $45, Team Superchargers took home the 2nd prize of $75, and Team Lance took home the grand prize of $200. Thanks to all who participated and special thanks to Brint Construction, sponsor of the event.
Be sure to sign up early for next year’s tournament, and don’t let those washers get rusty!
Team TWITA (That’s What I’m Talking About)-NORM was playing for more than the prize money. Their dear friend Norm Brode passed away only a few days before the event, and they dedicated their team in his memory. Norm and his wife Sara had a place in Crystal Beach for 40 years and he will be missed by many.
