Ah the memories

It’s really quite endearing watching all the memories come flooding back. Our 9 year old granddaughter arrived last week for a visit with Grandma and PawPaw, aunts and uncles and lots of cousins. We’ve been anticipating this visit for at least a year now. Addyson was to fly all by herself on a non-stop flight from Raleigh, NC. No, she wasn’t afraid, she’s flown many times, but this was her first solo flight. We greeted her, first off the airplane, proud as could be (all of us). The steward led her off, praises all around – how polite, eye contact, what a nice girl!

First stop – we took her to see her new cousins – the twins, Riggs and Fisher. What a treat to watch her with the 2 month old little guys, holding each one, “they’re so soft.” On the way to the beach – “I want to sleep in the loft, she claims!” Seeing it all through her eyes – Driving through Galveston, she spotted the roller coaster, then the ferry – “Addyson’s time trips.” Feeding seagulls, yep, we were sure to bring some old stale bread. Look, there’s Dannay’s, there’s the water slide, there’s The Big Store.” She doesn’t miss a beat! Finally, turning on our street “Oh, I see the house!”

You’re darn right, nothing’s changed Addyson. As she walks around the house, “oh, we have this picture.” “This is our light.” “Where can I put my clothes?” Her Mommy always unloads the contents of the suitcase into available dresser drawers. Yes, I found places for the normal junk that fills the drawers in each bedroom to make room. Confession: I wanted to help empty the suitcase the minute she got here. Putting everything away, shorts with shorts, tops with tops, swim suits, panties and jammies in piles of their own. BIG MISTAKE!

She goes over to PawPaw, tears falling down, “what’s the matter?” he asked. “Grandma put all my clothes away and now I don’t know what goes with what.” Oh my goodness! What’s Grandma to do? The three of us proceeded to go through all the stuff, putting outfits together as best we could. Grandma does what she has to do, hopefully redeeming herself – “How ‘bout ice cream for lunch Addyson?”

All is well for now – Love that girl!
