“All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small…”
Bay Vue United Methodist Church greeted creatures great and small at The Blessing of the Animals on October 8, 2017. What a joy it was to see humans and pets! Everyone obviously loved their own special animals, and were proud of their uniqueness. Most of the four legged visitors were canines. They came in all shapes, sizes, colors and coats. Some even joined in the singing of hymns. Lizzie, the only turtle, was a hit with the entire congregation.
Waiting outside for blessings were mule Mae Mae and horse Rebel. These two fine creatures came with Lisa and Ethan Stackpoole of Crystal Corral Stables. Pastor Valerie Hudson went to each pet to give a personal blessing. All animals sat or stood as she gently placed her hands on them. Pianist Gail Abbey played soft music during blessings time. All were quiet.
Treats were available after the service as Gail orchestrated, “How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?” Myriad choices of eatables existed for people and their companions. A Pet Treats table was set up in Fellowship Hall. A few creatures also chose delights from the human table of goodies. Mae Mae and Rebel received carrots and peppermints. (They preferred the peppermints.)
The Blessing of the Animals was an unforgettable experience. People in attendance felt as if they too had received a blessing. Please plan to come next year whether you have a pet or not. You and our beloved friends will be most welcome.
