Another Tasty Success

gumbo-00The Driftwood 6th Annual Charity Gumbo Cookoff was another tasty success on Saturday as they set out to raise money for charity. Jackie and Brian Sticker hosted as six gumbo teams competed. The teams began cooking soon after sunrise on Saturday morning under the two categories of seafood and chicken-and-sausage. As the aroma filled the air, the party started. Throughout the morning, visitors showed up with pop-ups, chairs, and plenty of beverages to last the day. Everyone was encouraged to sample the entries and vote for the People’s Choice Award. And then they satisfied their sweet tooth with the delicious baked goods provided by Michelle Woodul, Susie Holt, Kathy Hazlett, and Wylene Duncan. The Gemini Sunset Cookers served up their popular Gumbo-Ritas to round out the meal. All proceeds from the baked goods and ritas were donated to the event.

Live entertainment was provided by “Bayou Sounds” while the cornhole and washers competitions carried on. A large display of donated items were set out for the silent auction, and the coveted Yeti Cooler, once again donated for raffle by Landry’s Insurance, drew a lot of attention.
