Do you deserve justice or mercy?
O Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your rage.
Have compassion on me, Lord, for I am weak. Heal me, Lord, for my body is in agony.
I am sick at heart. How long, O Lord, until you restore me?
Psalm 6:1-3 NLT
"You have heard that the Law of Moses says, 'Love your neighbor' and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting like true children of your Father in heaven."
Matthew 5:43-45 NLT
About this week's promise
When others wrong us, we cry out for justice. When we wrong God, we cry out for mercy. Fortunately, God is merciful. But if we don't accept his merciful gift of salvation, we are subject to God's justice, the punishment of eternal death and separation from God. Until God sets up his eternal kingdom, where perfect justice prevails, justice will continue to be needed here on earth - both God's justice to urge us toward his kingdom, and law and order to keep anarchy from ruling. But we would do well to learn some lessons about God's mercy as we mete out justice. While justice provides law and order, mercy provides hope and forgiveness - God's formula for restoration.

Outrageous move to dilute authority of Texas peace officers
A COMMENTARY by The Police News

The Police News
January 9, 2009

THE WAY WE SEE IT: A COMMENTARY

How shocking to discover that with law enforcement agencies nationwide begging for police recruits to fill the severe shortage of police officers, with rising crime rates almost everywhere, especially in Galveston County, that the Galveston County Judge and some commissioners are brow beating Constables not to perform law enforcement duties but to restrict their activities to being process servers and baliffs for JP courts.

Attending a wedding for the first time, a little girl whispered to her mother, "Why is the bride dressed in white?"

The mother replied, "Because white is the color of happiness, and today is the happiest day of her life."

The child thought about this for a moment then said, "So why is the groom wearing black?"

As temperatures are dropping, people need hats, gloves, warm socks, blankets, towels, and the pantry needs soups (cup-a-soups, Raman noodles, canned soups, etc.), coffee, tea, hot chocolate, sugar, sweetener, milk, creamer, paper cups and napkins. You can drop items off at the office (2622 Market St., Galveston). We can pick them up if you call 409-762-2233.   Ted Hanley, Executive director, The Jesse Tree

Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to pick the little 'stringy things' off of it. That's how the primates do it.

Trees for the Bolivar Peninsula

Winnie Burkett

Sanctuary Manager Houston Audubon

Houston Audubon will be giving away native trees and shrubs in an effort to help peninsula property owners eplant their property.  To receive plants property owners need to sign up by email Flo Hannah, at fhannah@houstonaudubon.org or by calling the Houston Audubon office at 713-932-1639.  A Houston Audubon staff member will visit properties to determine what species would be appropriate for the property and may collect a soil sample for testing if it looks like there is still salt in the soil.  Plants will be delivered toproperty owners and planting help is available if needed.

This project is funded by Together Green a project of National Audubon and Toyota.  The Apache Foundation donated 500 trees and shrubs to be planted on the peninsula.

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store.  If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.

LIGHT CONSERVATION...

Light conservation is not about forcing anybody to do something; we are just giving information that could influence personal decisions as we are rebuilding. There are lighting options that work just as well for the intended user that won't affect our neighbors or the rest of the universe.

CAJUN  CORNER

One day Boudreaux went to the car dealership, he brought his best friend Thibodeaux along. He decide to test drive his new car first. So they were going down I-10 and Boudreaux told Thibodeaux to climb on to the trunk and see if his blinkers worked. So Thibodeaux climbed to the back and Boudreaux said "Check the left one first!," and then he turned it on. Thibodeaux said "Mais, Yes. Mais, No."
