From High Island to Rollover, then Crystal Beach to Port Bolivar. Come, join us for the online news of the Bolivar Peninsula. A community caring and sharing with others in their community.

How often do you want to "get even?"

The Lord despises double standards of every kind. Proverbs 20:10 NLT

Never pay back evil to anyone. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. Do your part to live in peace with everyone, as much as possible. Dear friends, never avenge yourselves. Leave that to God. For it is written, "I will take vengeance; I will repay those who deserve it," says the Lord. Romans 12:17-19 NLT

Don't say, "I will get even for this wrong." Wait for the Lord to handle the matter. Proverbs 20:22 NLT

God's measure

How often do we see the evil around us and pray for God's justice? We wonder, Why does God allow this evil to go on! This kind of thinking leads to two of the most common double standards: (1) judging others more harshly than we judge ourselves, and (2) believing God should judge others but remain lenient with us.

The Lord despises double standards because they elevate one person at the expense of others. These man-made standards also lack the mercy of God.

In our cry for fairness, we should not forget the frightening consequences of justice. As sinners, God could justly destroy each of us today for missing the mark of perfection. When we remember that God's patience and mercy block his judgment towards us, we will more likely show others patience and mercy.

WISE WAYS  Before you rush to judge another person, ask yourself whether you would be able to endure the same standard.

Today, Lord, give me strength to replace judgment with mercy.

Hurricane Ike: Nature's Force vs. Structural Strength

In the early morning hours of Sept. 13, 2008, Hurricane Ike struck the Bolivar Peninsula, a 27-mile long barrier island a few miles northeast of Galveston, Texas. This powerful storm demolished numerous residential communities and left behind 2.2 billion cubic yards of debris. Hurricane Ike's devastating effects offered researchers an opportunity to investigate the performance

Dear Concerned Friend of Rollover Pass,

The Gilchrist Community Association and the Gulf Coast Rod, Reel and Gun Club appreciate your presence at the meeting with the General Land Office earlier this month.  Rollover Pass has been a fishing mecca since it was opened in 1955 and has drawn hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Bolivar Peninsula. Rollover Pass holds a special place in all our hearts and the Gilchrist Community Association believes there are many questions that need to be answered before the Army Corps of Engineers and the General Land Office close the pass.

The Gilchrist Community Association is asking for your help to keep this Texas landmark open.  The GCA plans to petition the Army Corps of Engineers to conduct a full environmental impact statement and to look into modifications instead of closing the pass. With your contribution of $20 or more, we will be able to fund studies to further investigate the repercussions of closing the pass. If needed, your gift will also help hire a specialty lawyer who is familiar with our situation.

In addition to your financial contribution, it is also important to have your attendance at our meetings.  It is vital for us to be strong in numbers to show support for the Pass.  Please join us for the Gilchrist Community Association meeting on March 1st at 7:00pm at the First Baptist Church in High Island.   We cannot save Rollover Pass by ourselves; please consider donating today to benefit Rollover Pass.  Feel free to pass this information along to everyone who knows about Rollover Pass. We hope to see you again in March!

The NHFL would like to pass along it's thanks for being recognized as Most Themed Float entered in the 2010 Bolivar Lighthouse Krewe Parade. The NHFL or North Houston Football League is one of the oldest continuously active fantasy football leagues in the country.
The NHFL expanded a couple of years later to 10 teams 5 in the North Division and 5 in the South Division. Membership in the each division was based upon place of birth. Martin Christensen, born in Lake Charles is a charter member of the south division and has been in the league for 22 years. In the first picture above is Martin and Jim who collectively organize and design the NHFL float each year. The idea for this years float, The NHFL LOVES BEER goes to Mike. Pictured next is this year's NHFL King, Nick Gawronski. Nick also 25, has been totally blind since birth enjoys his weekends down at the beach every chance he gets. The NHFL is looking forward to seeing everyone next year in the 2011 Bolivar Lighthouse Parade
The NHFL began 25 years ago in North Harris County when a group of recently transplanted yankees who moved to Houston to start careers after college, were looking for a way to get out of the house each week to enjoy a beer and talk football. Members of the NHFL began buying property on Bolivar 12 years ago and have owned property in Sand Castle, Emerald II, Blue Water and Key Biscayne subdivisions. Pictured are five of the six original members of the NHFL. L-R Tim Doherty, Mike Frye, Bob Foster, John Gawronski, and Jim Denys ( not pictured is Pete Tetek )

Ahead of new CD, Hayes Carll is getting back to basics

By ANDREW DANSBY ENTERTAINMENT WRITER,Feb. 14, 2010, 5:42PM

The last time Hayes Carll had a new batch of songs ready for release, he was playing a festival in Colorado. Backstage he told friend and mentor Ray Wylie Hubbard he planned to title his album Trouble in Mind. "You can't do that," Hubbard told him just as an announcer called Carll's name to go onstage. He didn't find out until later it was the name of a blues standard.  http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ent/6867309.html
