The Gilchrist Community Association Needs YOUR HELP!

Right now, the Texas General Land Office is trying to close Rollover Pass. If their permit is approved by the Corps of Engineers it is scheduled to begin the closing process in February of 2011, with the actual filling in of the Pass to start some time in late summer of 2011.The Gilchrist Community Association is responsible for maintaining Rollover Fish Pass or "the Cut". Neither Rollover Pass nor the GCA receives funding from the county or state to help cover the costs to keep the pass over. It costs an estimated $1200 a month to maintain the port-a-potties, dumpsters, garbage pickup and general maintenance of the pass. If the permit is granted, there is still funding needed for one full year to keep the pass opened and maintained as it is now. Without your help now, the pass will have to be closed within three months because of lack of funds for maintenance.

While the Gilchrist Community Association would not like to see the pass closed, we are doing all we can to make sure the best outcome is had for all. Your donation and membership to the GCA will ensure that the pass is able to be enjoyed as it is in its current state for everyone. In the event that the permit is granted for the pass to close, your donation and membership STILL helps the GCA to ensure that we are able to lobby for piers, ramps, boat launches and other amenities that will help a new generation still be able to enjoy Rollover.

So PLEASE help us with either your donation or GCA membership to keep the Pass open and free to the public.  The larger our membership, the bigger our voice is to help keep the Pass open. Please join us in our crusade to keep the Pass open and free to the public.

Thank You,

Gilchrist Community Association

Publish his deeds

Sing a new song to the Lord! Let the whole earth sing to the Lord! Sing to the Lord; bless his name. Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does. ~ Psalm 96:1-3 NLT
O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise! ~ Charles Wesley (1707-1788)

Sing a new song

Every day we cross paths with someone who needs to hear the good news that the Lord saves. We can never fully plumb the depths of God's character and attributes, but with every day and every experience we can discover new facets about God, new songs to sing to him. To "publish" means to share and that refers not only to writing books and delivering sermons about God but also to sharing what the Lord has done in our own lives so that others might be drawn to him. Each of us can purpose to do that. The most powerful evangelism doesn't take place within the four walls of a church building. It occurs when we share with others in our neighborhood and workplace the good news of what God has done for us individually and for the whole world in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Ask God to bring people across your path today who need to hear the news that God saves and that he loves them. And then ask him for the compassion and courage to share the reason for your hope and to pray for these people.

LORD, I want to sing a new song to you and bless your name. I want to tell everyone about the amazing things you do.

Adapted from The One Year Book of Praying through the Bible by Cheri Fuller, Tyndale House Publishers (2003), entry for April 26. Digging Deeper: Read To Fly Again, the follow-up to In the Presence of My Enemies, in which Gracia Burnham reflects on the lessons and spiritual truths she learned in the jungle and how they apply to anyone's life.  Content is derived from the Holy Bible, New Living Translation and other publications of Tyndale Publishing House

Sharing My Testimony

Last week I shared the excerpt about the "Power of Prayer".  This week, I must share "Publish his Deeds" with a small instance that happened to me last weekend after Crab Fest was over.  As most of you know my daughter and her children were here visiting.  After a very full and extraordinary exciting weekend of Crab Fest, my daughter leaves the peninsula to go back home without calculating for mishaps.

To get home she must go through Houston and get to I-45-N.  She made a wrong turn on 59 N and got lost and called me frantically (with small children in the car).  I, MYSELF, could not do one thing on my OWN to help her at that moment.  I made some suggestions, she got upset with me and hung up the phone.  Right away I prayed a short, small, simple prayer, "Lord bless her, in the name of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus".  Then I believed in that prayer and stood on faith that my God WOULD work it out.

20 minutes later (a very long 20 minutes later), I received a text from my daughter, it read.....  Mom, I am thanking God for his sons and daughters.  The owner of a gas station in Houston filled her gas tank and another man gave her $20 to get food for the kids.  This was NOT happenstance or coincidence.  This was the Hand of God.  PC

Confident assurance

What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot see. God gave his approval to people in days of old because of their faith.  ~ Hebrews 11:1-2 NLT

Cody Joseph Vaughn

Cody Joseph Vaughn

Cody Joseph Vaughn was born in Woodville, Texas, August 18, 1980.  God must have needed a good fishing guide, because he called him home June 6, 2010.  He is survived by a family now remembering his fishing stories with great fondness.  This family includes his dad and stepmom, Hugh & Cindy Vaughn of Kingsland, Texas, and his mother and stepfather, Jennie & Gail McCulloch of Comfort, Texas.   Also missing him are his sister, Wendi Stampley and family of Lumberton; brother, Carson Vaughn and family of Austin, and stepsisters, Jami Castillo and family of College Station, and Laura McKissack of Austin, and the special woman in his life, Cristi Pickering and her son, Clayson, of Beaumont.  A multitude of other family members and friends are remembering his energy and vibrant soul with heavy hearts.  He will be missed by all who loved him.  Visitation was held at Cody's home church, Cathedral in the Pines Chapel in Beaumont from 6:00-9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 11; a service was held at the same location Saturday morning at 11:00; then friends and family were invited to gather at the home of Bubba & Laurie Ainsworth in Lumberton.  Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves.

What is Generation "Y"?

People born before 1946 were called The Silent generation.

People born between 1946 and 1959 are called The Baby Boomers.

People born between 1960 and 1979 are called Generation X.

People born between 1980 and 2009 are called Generation Y.

Why do we call the last group Generation Y? I never did know, but recently a cartoonist explained it very eloquently below.  Learned something new today! Scroll down.

CAJUN CORNER

When Boudreaux was a little boy he was called "Tee-Boudreaux". "Tee Boudreaux" lived with his family in a house with no indoor plumbing. Instead they had an outhouse out in the back of the house. His dad, Papa Boudreaux, wanted the best he could get for the Boudreaux family. So they had a "two holer" outhouse so that two people could "go" at the same time.

One day Tee-Boudreaux and Papa Boudreaux were both in the outhouse when Tee-Boudreaux saw his Papa accidentally drop a quarter into the hole.

Tee-Boudreaux noticed his Papa thinking about something a while then reach into his pocket, pull out a dollar bill, and drop it into the hole where the quarter had gone.

Tee-Boudreaux saw this and said, "Mais, Papa what you dropped dat dollar bill into dat hole for?!".

Papa Boudreaux said, "May Tee-Boudreaux, I didn't have de heart do send you down dere for just a quarter!"
