BP Lions give back

This past week, several members of the Bolivar Peninsula Lions Club delivered the checks to Crenshaw and High Island Schools. Thanks to so many (544) people who participated in The Golf Cart Poker Run, the Lions Club was able to distribute over $18,000 to assist the children of the peninsula with all the school supplies they would need.

I want to share some of the Thank You notes we received from the children. Some will make you laugh and some will really tug at your heart. I’m not changing the spelling or the grammar.

“Dear Lion’s Club thank you for making it to where I didn’t have to buy this stuff. The End”

“Thank You, for the money you donated to our school. My grandparents are very greatfull to. You guys were really lucky to win the poker run. All of our teachers are very thankful to. I hope this letter makes you feel like you did a great thing even more.”

“You must be very good people to buy all our school supplies. The binders will hold a lot of paper so we don’t lose them and the note books will hold a lot of notes.”

A Thankful 8th Grader – “I want to thank you for everything you have given us. Honestly, without you guys, I don’t think we would have had enough supplies for all of our students. I am 14, in the eighth grade, and this will be my last year at Crenshaw. I think the only reason I am not failing is because of you guys.”

The 4th grade drew pictures of Lions and school supplies with note saying “thank you for markers, folders and a school box.” One young man simply and honestly said “Thanks for the stuff and thanks for not making me go shopping.”

“Thank you Lions for the money you donated to the school so we can get school supplies. Most people couldn’t afford school supplies this year. We would have been lost without you. You make everyone in this school put a smile on their face.”

The schools were able to purchase all grades the same supplies, no one had too much or too little. One little boy noticed and spoke up, “hey, we are all the same.”

Sincerely – The Bolivar Peninsula Lions Club wishes to Thank You ALL for helping this community of children “be all the same.”
