Can’t cure Stupid!

If you have lived in the area for any length of time, you know that when it rains to rains! It will go for months without a drop of rain and in one day the Houston/Galveston area will receive 6 to 10 inches in a 24-hour period. We all watch TV news, so even if our reasoning is not too good we can see that an underpass is going to flood. That is why TXDOT put the measuring sticks on the overpass pillows. As we have watched for years, there is this group of people who think they or their car can float and that is not true. I think these are the same people that rules do not apply to. Such as going around a railroad crossing when the crosses are down. Some poor soul had to brace the rain and high water to go out and put Large Red/Orange cones up so you would know not to pass, you would be in harm’s way. WHY would anyone think that cone just floated there so they can go around, “it must be a mistake?”

I know there have been times in my life when I thought my job was so important that I had to be there every day, but at this age I know better. There were times I knew I had to weather the ice storms and floods so that other people could have their money to evacuate their home. Most of the time no one thought they needed money, we opened just to sit and look at each other for 8 hours and then try to get home.

I know that kids will be kids and there was lots of fun in the high water to play in and thank goodness most were saved by first responders. Most of what I question is the adults who just drove into the high water; their families will wonder the rest of their lives, WHY? That question can never be answered.

Thank you first responders for trying to keep us alive and safe, while you were out trying to save the stupid’s of this world your family was worried for you. Prayers for each and every one of you.
