Disc Dogs Soar Again

dogs-0Once again, Gregory Park came alive as the 2nd Annual Crystal Beach Disc Dog Competition had dogs flying high and disc throwers proud of their pets. This competition is one of several held throughout Texas to compete for the invite to the national tournament. This year was featuring the Ashley Whippet Qualifier in addition to the Skyhoundz Discdogathon Qualifier and the Crystal Beach Disc Dog Fun in the Sun events.

With the most common disc dogs being border collies, cattle dogs, and Australian shepherds, all dogs are just out there having fun. The owners carry much of the responsibility to put the disc in the right spot for their high-flying dog to catch. And this weekend’s weather posed a bit of an issue for the competitors. The wind picked up in the morning and continued to blow all day, affecting the disc toss. However, according to judge Christopher Steele, “The catch ratio goes down, but all competitors face the same conditions.” With dozens of competitors and their amazingly acrobatic dogs, the event was thrilling and exciting.
