Farmer Ben

As many of you know I love flowers, bulbs, seeds, someone else’s yard, you know what I mean. Our friend Ben has been trying to work with several of us in the park for wheels. He is trying to teach us veggies 101, from seed to produce. “Here is what you need to know”, is his favorite saying, and we stare at him like a deer in the head lights. We are trying! Now this past Friday night after work I was inspecting my beautiful tomatoes and along come Ben. “See that worm?” he said to me. WHAT WORM!!??

Farmer Ben plucks the worm off the beautiful tomato and hands me the tomato, at that point I began doing the “Lucy” dance on the worm. Then he hands me another tomato with similar holes and I began the Lucy dance on that poor worm again. Of course, Ben can no longer talk to me because he is laughing so hard, but he tries. This is how we newbies treat our teacher but he tries. Ben was trying to teach me that the worm was coming out of the tomato not going into the tomato. That made NO sense to me. I thought they climbed up the stock and into the tomato. “This is what you need to know, a small bug drops a speck on the green small tomato and a worm begins to form. Really??

The other lady student has cucumbers, bell pepper, and snap beans, she is not doing much better than I am. Of course, Farmer Ben, brings us goodies from his home garden so we could try to know what our progress should be. Thank You and Bless you for putting up with us.

Now, when I come home from work on Mother’s Day, there on the deck table was my prize from RR. He purchased everything from Home Depot that had the word Tomato on the label. My sweetie, RR! I really think when he saw the damage to that poor worm he knew there could be a problem.
