Bay Vue United Methodist Church hosted its third annual Father’s Day Weekend Fish Fry. Thanks to the efforts of members, relatives and friends, and the participation from the Bolivar Community, peninsula visitors and guests, this endeavor was bigger and better. The Bay Vue cooking team fried up copious quantities of gourmet tasting fish. The cole slaw, potato salad, and hush puppies were delicious with all of these delicacies augmented by Cat Holtzclaw’s famous tartar sauce. End that meal with some homemade peach cobbler, and your eyes light up while your stomach says, “Howdy.”
This event on Saturday before Father’s Day from 11:00 – 2:00 has become famous for the precision of the workers, the quality of the food and the pleasure that Bay Vue has in serving its guests. People mentioned not only how good the food was, but how much fun they had. That may be because all those who helped had such a delightful time. Workers obviously enjoyed what they were doing whether it was setting up, giving directions, taking orders, handling tickets, preparing food, serving food, or cleaning up afterwards.
Customers could drive through for take-out or dine in Fellowship Hall. Those who dined inside stayed to visit with old friends and new acquaintances. Church member Sherry Morgan once stated that this wasn’t just a fund raiser; it was a “fun” raiser. All the folk who attended this year’s Fish Fry would agree.
It may take a village to rear a child, but it takes Bay Vue UMC along with community and friends to create a real Grand Slam Fish Fry!
