Fun At The Mall

As you know by now, we purchased our home on Bolivar 22 days before IKE. With that said, we sold our home of 30 years in League City in 2009 and became full time residents of the Peninsula. We know the Webster and League City area just like the back of our hand; the mall, Baybrook, was just starting to bloom when we moved to League City. Now that you have background for this story I’ll get started on how This Bolivar Lady Did It. First off, this trip to Baybrook would not be needed if I had used my brain a few months ago. You see, we have become a blended family for the first time, our first born daughter remarried this past July to a wonderful man who has two beautiful daughters, ages 7 and 13 (going on 17), if you know what I mean. For some reason, I forgot to purchase their presents when I was out shopping for the other five grandchildren.

So I am off Monday morning to James Avery and Toys ’R Us, I had great plans to be on the 9 am ferry so I would be at Bay Area Blvd at 10. Traffic is no longer my fun thing to do since we moved here. I left about 10:30, not good! My phone rings along the way down the freeway and it is a friend who lives on the Peninsula, we chat, and I tell her where I am heading, “OH! you are going to Dillard’s”! No, I am going to James Avery; well, she tells me “there is one in Dillard’s now.” Really!!?? Anyway, I said I would go to the mall and pick up something for her and purchase my charm there. I have to be honest, I don’t think I have been to Baybrook in several years and for sure not around the back to Dillard’s. Of course, every year at this time TxDot starts some kind of construction on Nasa Rd 1 or Bay Area, WHY!?! Well, I did find my way to turn left under the overpass and almost made the correct lane change to the mall. None of this would have been a problem if the people who know where they were going had stayed out of my Way! I was not singing Deck the Halls at that point. Now, I have turned into the mall and headed around the outside of the mall when I discover you can not get to Dillard’s from here. Three U-turns later and my phone rings, it’s Rene’ our second born child, HELLO, geeeee Mom, having a bad day? I explain, thank goodness she knows how to get me to Dillard’s – Love that Child.

Do my shopping and leave, heading for Toys ’R US, thank goodness for phones you can send pictures to, that is how my new son-in-law explained what the youngest one would love. Had enough smarts to head for customer service and show the picture to a nice lady who looked it up and they had 4 left, yea. Off I go where she sends me, nope, not a one. Back to customer service, she now sends me to electronics as they may be there. Nope, guy even looked in the “back room,” sent me back to customer service with words to the effect that SHE should look in her back room. I leave empty handed, but the nice lady at Customer Service said she thought WalMart may also carry them. Really, WallyWorld the week before Christmas, who hates me??

The WalMart in Texas City is completely different than most of the other stores, and they are so kind they have toys in three different places. Well the stars were aligned for me as a man in a blue vest walked by and knew what this picture in my phone was and took me right to them. They had ten or more and were $5 less than the toy store.

Needless to say, when I finally got home to wonderful Bolivar, I needed a glass of wine.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and please be safe for New Year’s Eve. See you next year.
