Yes siree! The first major holiday of the Summer and it was a doozy. What with the Texas Frog Fest going on and just getting off Go Topless Jeep Day, I tend to forget what our quiet little Crystal Beach was like, it was only a few weeks ago. Oh, and did I forget the Texas Crab Festival? Bam Bam Bam! Three weekends in a row of non-stop fun and entertainment. I received a call last week while I was at work from a woman, probably in her 40’s. They had just bought their vacation home here, I didn’t ask which sub-division, but their first weekend to the beach was Jeep Weekend. Holy Cow! How about that for your introduction to “the beach!” She told me they had invited family down for Memorial Weekend and she wondered if Memorial Weekend would be anything like Jeep Weekend? She was worried she wouldn’t be able to take her children down to the beach again, fearing it wouldn’t be some place you could take children.
Remembering back to many years of Memorial Weekends, how it was the first weekend for families to come enjoy the beach, I reassured her everything would be fine. I reassured her that this is a family weekend, please don’t worry, enjoy. Then, she asked me about Frog Fest. “Is this somewhere we can take the children?” Again, I pointed out, “well, there’s a carnival at Frog Fest this year, sure, you owe it to yourself to give it a try.”
I hope I didn’t mislead her, I want to give every one of these events the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully, she’ll call me back on Tuesday with good stories and be happy they’re part of our vacation population. I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to the next one – 4th of July!
