Heading SOUTH

The last week of September we traveled many miles. Monday we left Lancaster, PA on I-76. Even though it is an interstate, it is a PA toll. I’ll pay any amount not to travel a bad road with our house behind us. Just sayin’. Then down I-81, love that road, except for the trucks. We landed in Lexington, VA. We stayed at Lee High Camp. This camp is at the top of a hill and really nice and level pads. At the bottom of the hill is a large truck stop and overnight stay for truckers. When you are at the top of the hill you cannot hear the truck noise.

Tuesday, we headed off for Tennessee, a lovely spot just outside of Knoxville. The camp was Dumplin Valley Farm. Tuesday, we traveled through the Appalachians and the Great Somky Mountains. I did better, I was a little quieter.

Wednesday, we made it through Birmingham to Tuscaloosa, Alabama. We did not unhook the truck as we were leaving early Thursday morning. Most of us have attended football games were we were outnumbered, but have you ever stayed at a campground where every truck, trailer, RV and so on is covered in a big RED A!!! We did not wear our A&M shirts that night. This day was a very nervous day as we got our first tank of bad diesel, just after filling up the engine light came on. When we stopped at a rest area, RR checked the manual for the computer codes and that was it. So the next few days we stopped at least half a tank to fill up. Finally, second day in Mississippi the light went off.

Thursday, we were off to Gulfport, Mississippi, I missed the turn off the loop and we had a lovely trip down a farm-to-market road. Oh well, not bad for 4 months of travelling. The camp we stayed at was just off 49. Really neat day as we traveled through two towns where my Mom and Dad’s families were from. We were only staying one night, as they were booked for two weeks, but when I went in the office he had just received a cancellation for the weekend.

No pictures for this – we were on a mission, heading home.

Stay tuned, Fun in the Biloxi area.
