Home alone

This past weekend was a perfect example of how I could become a hermit, an unbathed recluse, a do-nothing kind of pond scum. The weather played an important part of my decision to stay at home, but I did get out late Friday evening, Big Store bound, for kitty litter in case the stairs froze overnight. All set now, I felt perfectly comfortable reading, watching television, cooking and playing on my computer. My sweet canine friend, who doesn’t feel the cold through all that fur, was determined to make me get out for our twice a day ventures to the beach. Two pairs of pants, two shirts plus a jacket, a fur hat and gloves would be everything I had to wear to get out on the golf cart. Everything covered but my face which froze and hurt like all get out! The only saving grace was a bit of sunshine if you could get away from the wind.

I received a text from a friend inviting me over on Saturday night, so I thought I’d better take a nap. Awaking from my nap, I realized I just couldn’t bear the thought of having to get cleaned up and put on a fresh set of clothes. So, at home I stayed.

Sunday finally came around, and my husband called, leaving his annual hunting trip, I had a few hours to try to clean up my act. Stripped the bed and made my way into that foreign place called the Laundry Room, I found the vacuum cleaner parked right in the middle of the Laundry Room, and proceeded to vacuum up a weekend’s worth of sand and dog hair. Showered and washed my hair, put on clean clothes and no one would ever know what a slob I had been.

It’s okay, every now and then, it doesn’t hurt to get down to basics – we all survived and we look forward to another Annual Hunting Trip 2018!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you. Email: [email protected]
