I Voted

Let me begin by apologizing for even bringing this up again, but I have a bit of a point to make. I guess it’s all about “jumping on the band wagon.” Yep, I’m referring to Facebook and the elections. On election day, the amount of people who wrote in to tell us they had voted was overwhelming. Not to mention, the numbers who came in on that one Monday where the poles weren’t even open. They missed the whole two weeks prior to Tuesday, November 8th, for Early Voting. They came into the Chamber office, shrugging their shoulders, their hands out pleading “I’m here to vote!”

Wow, I even said to one person, not quite realizing how rude I must have sounded – “Have you been living under a rock?” She surprised me by saying, “I guess so.” Then, I saw posts from people about voting on election day who I know weren’t even in their County of record and COULDN’T have voted anyway! But there they were, boasting about the fact they had done their civic duty. Right?

As my son so eloquently put it, “Mom, I voted today, but if I don’t post it on Facebook, will my vote magically disappear?” I’m not sure honey, is that like if it’s your birthday and no one wishes you a Happy Birthday on Facebook, can you go ahead and just stay the same age for next year?

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you. Email: [email protected]
