Our time in the state of New York was mostly spent with RR’s first cousin, Denny. These two have been friends all their lives, their Mom’s were best friends too. Even living thousands of miles apart they talk and email each other often. When they are together they are a hoot. Denny’s career was radio, most of the time he was part of a morning team called the Breakfast Flakes. He was recruited from all over the mid-west to his final destination in Binghamton, NY and he retired from there. So when these two are together the jokes and jabs fly! Michele, Denny’s lady friend of 18 years, and I just stand back and watch. And Laugh!
We toured several towns while we were there but we stayed away from New York City. RR and I had no desire to see New York City. We really wanted to see Niagara Falls but that was a five hour trip one way – too long.
As most of you know I was born and raised in NASCAR and still love it. There is a track in New York state called Watkins Glen, this track is a road track. For many years, this was not one of my favorite races to watch. With that said, we took off on Saturday morning to the town of Watkins Glen to see the track and the beautiful lake. Luck have it, on Saturdays you can pay to drive the track and we did, of course, I was not the lucky one to being driving, that was Denny. I was still in the car and it was Best Day Ever! I will watch this race every year with new respect.
