Our almost three year old, Maezy, gets the notion every evening around 5 pm that it’s time to go back down to the beach. Dad takes her every morning to get his daily picture before I get out of bed. If I’m not up when she returns, she’ll come to my side of the bed to nudge my hand to wake me up. Usually, around 5, we’re each sitting at our computers, so she’ll come up and nudge each of us on the forearm. If we shake her off or say “wait awhile,” she thinks a lick will get our attention. The Happy Hour trip to the beach requires some type of beverage, not for her, but for me. The clanking of the ice into the cup is a definite trigger to her anticipation of the trip. It’s all over then, hurry and finish making this drink so we can get on our way.

You may be wondering if she gets a bath after EVERY trip to the beach, and the answer is no. She gets a rinse off. But, yesterday, she did get a real bath shortly after noon, thoroughly brushed and sprayed with her “fru fru” stuff. After all that, she demanded to go back to the beach in the evening and came back looking like the “beach dog” she truly is.
