Port Bolivar Cemetery Memorial Wall

The Port Bolivar Cemetery is a very special place in our community. Not only because we all have loved ones buried here, but it is also a veritable history book on Bolivar. Chairman Malcolm Comeaux, Nana Hornbeck, Feather Shaw, Nancy Comeaux, Kenny Strimple, Jane Ewing, Pat Henry and I formed a special cemetery committee after Hurricane IKE. Because of their hard work, we have been able to preserve our past, honor those who have come before us and those who left us way too soon.

It was decided to create a memorial stone for people who had been cremated and did not have a marker here. We soon came to realize that we had a lot of people who have been buried in other places. These folks have families and friends close to us. We wanted to make sure that they were remembered as well. What we thought would be just a few names in the beginning soon grew and began to fill the stone. It is our hope that this memorial will be a lasting tribute to the people whose names have been engraved on it. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for all they did for Bolivar Peninsula.
