Rollover Pass Fishing Report, Apr 28 – May 4, 2014

Warming waters and great weather should get our fishing action back in order. The Gulf shrimp haven’t showed up as yet but when they do the fishing action at the pass will be HOT!! Finger mullet, shad, bait croaker, and mud minnows are now in the cut with the expected shrimp run coming soon. Meanwhile, just set yourself down and enjoy the enjoyable.

Speckled Trout
Pre-Dawn Early is the key for big specks with schoolies hanging nearby.
(Limit: 15 inch minimum for 10 trout with only one 25 inch trout per day allowed as part of your daily limit)

Redfish (Red Drum)
SLOW- but active.
(Limit: 20 inch minimum to 28 inch maximum for 3 reds per day – one over 28 inch red -plus bonus red- allowed when properly tagged in addition to your 3 fish limit)

Black Drum
The Spring Drum run is just about over.
(Limit: 14 inch minimum to 30 inch maximum for 5 fish per day with one OVER 52 inches allowed)

Flounder
Steady.
(Limit: 14 inch minimum for 5 fish per day limit)

Sheepshead
Steady.
(Limit: 15 inch minimum with 5 per day Creel)

Gafftop Catfish
A few coming through the cut but no run as yet.
(Limit: 14 inch minimum for no limit creel)

Whiting/Croaker
LOTS of small bait croaker, with bull whiting in the surf and cut.
(No Limits)

Sandtrout/Gulftrout
A few sandies to 18 inches being caught.
(No Limits)

Blue Claw Crab
GETTING CRABBY.
(Limit: 5 inches between points with no berry crabs (females with eggs) allowed)

Stone Crabs
A few being caught.
(Limit: only right claw may be kept when 2-1/2 inches above first Knuckle)
