Sailing by daylight…and by the light of the moon

sail00The Harvest Moon Regatta is an annual sailboat race from Galveston to Port Aransas that began this past Thursday, October 13th. This year, 141 boats entered the race, including several from our community. To kick off the race excitement, Brad Ballard hosted a pre-race party at Laguna Harbor on Wednesday evening. Six boats and their crew attended the party, along with guests and visitors looking to support the racers, meet the crew, and see the magnificent sailing vessels. The boats docked at Laguna Harbor for the night, as the crew enjoyed BBQ, refreshments, and live music. Dave Gohlke, owner of the 41 foot “Liberty” is sailing in this race for the first time. He expects to complete the trip in about 24 hours. And docked next to the “Liberty” is the 32 foot catamaran named “Josephine.” This very fast boat was hand built over a 3 year period by Willie Pack of Austin. Sailing by daylight…and by the light of the moon.
