Live it up at the Beach

Every day I get another panic call from someone planning to come to the Peninsula for a visit. Holy Cow, what’s the matter with the media this summer? It seems like they have nothing to report about lately, so they’re attacking “The Beach.” If Thunderstorm BILL, wasn’t enough, now it’s Sharks, Oil Spills, Contaminated Water – What’s next?

I long for the calls about “Can we ride our ATV on the beach?” Such an easy fix, I’ll tell them it’s a Non-County Road kind of thing. You cannot ride your ATV from your beach house (on a County Road) to the beach. You will have to trailer it down to the beach.

My most favorite questions are about weddings on the beach. “Yes,” you can have your wedding down on the beach. It is a Highway, so you cannot block traffic. I have a suggestion list comprising officiators, cake decorators, and flower arrangers. Just email the Chamber. A wedding coordinator over here on the Peninsula would be a great asset!
Oh my gosh, I really did drift on over to the Positive.

I guess, where I was originally going with all this …Our Peninsula is a wonderful place to Live, Play and Enjoy. Heck, I’ve been enjoying it for decades. Back in the 60’s, we didn’t worry, or even think about the water condition, or what might pinch us as we waded out into the Gulf. What’s changed folks? Come on back and feel free to live it up at the beach … we’re keeping the light on for you!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
