Miracle Chip Denies Harrison $140 Win
For the past three years on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at the Ranch, the regulars tee it up for a quick nine holes of Par 3 action. The tee box markers are moved weekly to new locations so the course is never the same. The format is called a skins game. Each player contributes $10 to the pot. The low scorer of the day wins $10 or $20, depending on the number of players. The rest of the money is earned by the players who win a hole outright with the lowest score. If two players shoot the same low score on a hole, everyone ties. Usually there are two or three skins won every round. Occasionally though, no one wins a skin. The prize money is carried over to the following Tuesday or Thursday.

On Thursday, August 27th, Dabney Harrison and Mike VanZandt made the only birdies of the day, but on the same hole. VanZandt knocked in an unlikely 40 foot birdie to deny the Dabster a nice payday. VanZandt’s one over par 28 edged John Milby by one shot. The skins money ($140) is carried over and added to the pot on Tuesday, September 1st at 5:00. All time Ranch leading money winner Shannon O’Brien, golf guru John Milby, consistent winner Michael Comeaux, putter-challenged David Buchanan, the legendary Dewey Jones, 9th hole specialist Terry Millender, long knocker Richard Taylor, steady Paul Williams, the Mayor of Sandy Shores Bob Jackson, streaky putting Robin Giddens, sweet swinging James Irvin, birdie machine Wayne Meeks, the Dabtician, aka Dabney Harrison and the soon to be senior VanZandt are expected to compete.
