What a way to end the summer!

Spent the weekend on the beach. One last bake in the sunshine, roasted and out of control. That’s me! My Birthday weekend began like any other day. I woke up late, got my coffee and joined my little beach family out on the deck. To my surprise, two more deck chairs to round out the conversation pit. And, my favorite, a documentary DVD about Pelicans, Pelican Dreams. Maezy and I watched it Friday night, while someone snoozed to the right of me on the couch. That’s okay, I told him all about it when he woke up.

All day Saturday was spent on the beach, under the canopy or not. The day was spent with a good book, a rousing game of Moon and many games of washers, stopping to tear down our beach set-up so we could make it to Mass on time. Oh what I would have given for a sofa in the back of church to curl up and take a little nap, but the place was so crowded, we had to sit in the front row.

Sunday was spent at the Big Rig Regatta, what a hoot! Our neighbor’s son-in-law was in the race, circling around the rig with six other sailboats. Two and half hours later, all boats were in, they were exhausted, but what an exciting event.

We’ve ended out the long weekend with a Birthday lunch over in Galveston. The families came together at one of our favorite restaurants for a lot of laughter, drinks and good food. Oh how blessed I am to have made another trip around the sun.

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
