10 reasons why we love the Gulf Coast

by Georgia Osten

After losing our precious beachside community, many of us have a new appreciation for our surroundings. Yes, we remember BI, “before Ike,” but having lost it for a while, we can now sit back and take in the picture with a new found love and devotion. Why do we love the Gulf Coast?

  1. At the beach, we can all act a bit like children and no one will get too upset with us
  2. Sitting under a canopy on the beach for 10 long hours is just what you do to pass the day
  3. Memories are made at the beach, from childhood on, it’s in our hearts
  4. There are no formal events – dress code is “beachy”
  5. Over indulgence is a definite necessity. Is that the Ice Cream Truck I hear?
  6. What’s a day without seeing a pelican skimming lowly across the waves, a dolphin jumping and playing in the surf, or getting pinched by a crab as you’re innocently wading in the surf?
  7. What time is it? Who cares when you’re on the beach, we don’t have a schedule, there’s no need to rush off anywhere, just sit and chill.
  8. It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere, right? Sip on that drink whenever and as slow or as fast as you choose
  9. Don’t we all feel a little better with a bit of a sunshine glow on our faces and shoulders?
  10. Food tastes better and everyone sleeps better. Have I said this before? Everything’s better at the beach!

    Georgia and Tom

I have a photo of my two little ones swinging at your house in Crystal Beach many years ago. Denise and Wade Myers! Memories….they are 41 and 39 now! Kids rode the horses and Tom’s sisters baby sat for us some.

All of the structures of our past have been taken by the rath of IKE, but not our heart photos, we love it down there and will always love it no matter what. We were so close to your parents and family while living in the area.

I think Bolivar Pennisula is a beacon to the future, the positive attitudes and commitment to building a stronger community.

    Your old friend,
    Gina
