25 Years of Beads & Bling

The 25th Annual Lighthouse Krewe Mardi Gras Parade began with the Krewe Float all decked out in purple, gold and green to match the theme of “25 YEARS OF BEADS AND BLING”! King Ed Riley and Queen Fran Skiles waved from the front of the float to the adoring parade fans! They then had the honor of throwing the first “goodies”, followed by the Krewe members throwing candy, special commemorative doubloons, toys, moon pies and of course tons of beads to the record breaking crowd! This year there were 85 entries in the Silver Anniversary Parade! The gorgeous weather brought out large floats, small floats, golf carts, jeeps and boats to paraded their “CRAZY” down highway 87 to music, dancing and general merrymaking!

This year, in honor of 25 parades, the Lighthouse Krewe hosted a free After Party in Gregory Park! Face painting by Lizz, a bouncy house, food cart by Stingaree and music by Three Way Switch kept the party goers busy for four hours of good family fun! Miller Beer graciously sponsored the Krewe in this first, since the Storm, After Party with hopefully many more to follow!!

Bobbey White announced the 2015 Court, Duchess’ Mavis Hunstiger, Shelly Butts, Gloria Walker, and Lois Riley and Dukes Mark Hunstiger, Danny Butts, David Walker and Larry Skiles. She then introduced The 2015 King and Queen Ed Riley and Fran Skiles!

Winner of the Float Judging Contest were: Large Float: The Big Store, Small Float: Frontier Pest Control, Golf Cart: Kathy Mouton and Other: The Turquoise Bug. They were given framed posters of the Krewe Theme Art and bragging rights for the next year!! A great big THANK YOU, to the three judges for taking on the enormous responsibility of judging the entries.

The Bolivar Peninsular Lighthouse Krewe would like to thank Mike Dienst, with Miller Beer for sponsoring us, with beautiful banners and Gold Doubloons among other thing. We would also like to thank BB Young, Parade Captain for all his hard work organizing the Parade and After Party and Matt White, Float Captain for keeping our beautiful float in good repair. And last but certainly not least, a great big THANK YOU to all the Krewe Members that work tirelessly throughout the year to bring Mardi Gras to the Bolivar Peninsula!

Once again we had a blast with our kids, grandkids, family members and friends preparing our Mardi Gras float, being in the parade and enjoying all who came out to watch the parade and catch all the goodies! This is our second time to do this and has become a fun annual event for our family and friends. We also enjoyed the after party, great idea. A big Thank You to everyone who makes this event happen and the King of our float, Steve. Well done!
