27th Annual Texas Crab Festival – WOW

by Georgia Osten
The 27th Annual Crab Festival got off to a ZyDeCajun Rockin’ beginning May 11th! Wayne Toups & ZyDeCajun band entertained a record-breaking crowd on Friday evening. The booths were set up, the carnival rides were twirling and the beer was flowing.

As we were shutting ‘er down at midnight, the skies were playing their own light show in accompaniment to the distant thunder. While we slept, a gully washer rolled in, drenching the grounds to ankle deep water and mud.

By 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, the sun peeked out and the promise of another fantastic festival day unfolded. Throngs of folks flocked in to enjoy the events and later, the sounds of Kyle Park. What a beautiful evening, maybe a bit soggy, but greatly improving with the dry weather.

A relaxing Sunday, the last day of the festival, was upon us. We parked our chairs under the pavillion and waited for the grand finale band to entertain us, and Man, did they entertain us! Ezra Charles Band played a whopping 3 hours. This diverse group of musicians, playing anything from “rockabilly to swing to blues to boogie.” After Ezra and his group cleared out, all the raffle committees joined on stage to announce the winners.
