A Bolivar Coastal Christmas

We hope you had a chance to witness the Bolivar Coastal Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Saturday, December 1st. Across the Highway from The Big Store stands the giant 20′ spruce donated by Reaves Tree Farm out of Deweyville. Yet another group effort provided by this loving community! The platform was reinforced to hold the mighty tree, and the Weisingers, Flanagans and Maxeys strung lights and ornaments all around the tree with the assistance of a couple of borrowed lulls and cherry pickers. High Island and Crenshaw students resourcefully made ornaments from natural items found on the beaches up and down the peninsula. Trophies were handed out to the students with the winning ornaments.

The crowd assembled in The Big Store parking lot where the carolers from BayVue United Methodist Church entertained all with Christmas music, mostly A cappella, as the audience sang along. Refreshments were served, all sponsored by local businesses. Larry Flanagan, as the spokesperson, gave the countdown promptly at 6:30 pm and Brenda Flanagan flipped the switch!

Thank you to all who participated in this joyous event. Merry Christmas and Feliz Navidad!

We acknowledge the following sponsors who contributed to make this wonderful event a reality: Platinum Sponsors Tiki Beach Bar & Grill and Reaves Tree Farm, The Big Store, Texas First Bank, Weisingers on the Beach, Bluewater Bait Camp, Brint Construction, Billy Shipp, and Harold’s Lawn Service.
