A New Leaf

By Georgia Osten
Okay, I’ve turned over a new leaf. Sorry, it’s not really a “new leaf,” I believe I’ve turned this one over several times. It’s okay, it’s a good thing I keep coming back to these leaves. After a much needed trip to see the doctor, it’s a new one, I’m back on track again. I don’t know how he got to me so easily, but I’ve scheduled all sorts of tests and exams. I won’t get into all the nitty gritty of it, but I guess I rather shocked him as he asked “when is the last time you had a ^#$*$&*(@?” “Oh, I guess a hundred years ago.” He didn’t think that was too funny, so I promised to make the appointments.

I’ve finally divorced my doctor of 20+ years, I don’t think he knows it yet. It was a nice relationship, but long distance relationships don’t always work out. I mean, all the travel was on my part, clear to Sugar Land and back. He never offered to come over here to see me. Okay, I know I’m being silly. Anyway, after visiting my new doctor, I decided to start exercising again.

Let’s see, on Friday I took a forty minute walk in the neighborhood. Came home and popped an Aleve. Saturday, I took another forty minute walk, came home and popped 2 Aleve. I finished preparing my garden in those two days and spread fertilizer, this is a good feeling, it’s all ready for planting. By the way, my new doctor seemed to twinkle when I told him I liked to garden – Big Plus! Gardening, this year, I plan to be more selective about the veggies I choose. I will begin with purple asparagus, I’ll mingle it in with the green asparagus. My husband reminded me it takes a good two years to become established. Thanks Dear !

Back to my exercise regime – no walking on Sunday or Monday, oh dear. I did do something commendable though, I dropped by Sweat Fitness to talk with Jennifer about my Silver Sneakers Membership. She wasn’t there. I don’t think my Silver Sneakers Membership is there anymore either, according to the new lady at the desk. “This is my first day, I told Jennifer something like this would happen.” Poor thing.

It’s okay, the new young lady at the desk should know more by tomorrow. It will make me feel good to stop by again. At least I will have “stepped into a gym.” How about you??

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you. Email: [email protected]
