A time of year to reflect

A time of year to reflect on all the blessings in life. How many times do we simply gloss over the everyday happenings, thinking “that’s just the way it is, just the way it should be.” Baloney, we make our own destiny. We should thank God everyday for keeping our families healthy and happy. I remember 40+ years ago, when we didn’t have a pot to pee in. We were happy, we still had food on the table, we had each other. There weren’t a lot of frills in our lives. Sitting on the deck in the evening with neighbors, sharing a bottle of really cheap wine was an evening enjoyed. Playing with the kids before dinner, baths after dinner and everyone gathered around the living room in their PJ’s until they fell asleep was a treat.

I’m thankful for all we had and I’m especially thankful for my successful children and how they’ve blessed and enhanced my life and all those around them. I couldn’t be more proud of all of them, with all they have accomplished. I’m always pleased when it seems they remember a little of what it was like “back in the day.”

We recently met the bunch over in Galveston for breakfast. Our teen age grandkids woke up early on a Saturday morning to get out there to serve the homeless. What a selfless act of compassion. I would never be so bold to assume responsibility, I’m just very grateful to know such a fine bunch of individuals.
Happy Thanksgiving.

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you.
