Another fun-packed weekend!

We made a long overdue appointment to get Maezy to the Vet for her annual checkup, this on a Friday. I dreaded hearing what she weighs now, but happily found out she’s only 77 lbs. PawPaw asked Dr. Matak if she thought Maezy was fat? Dr. Matak felt down Maezy’s sides and proclaimed, “No, she has a little extra, but she still has a waist.” Gotta love Dr. Matak! Good news because we’ve been supplementing Maezy’s dry food with green beans or carrots for over a year. It’s kind of a filler.

PawPaw got home just in time to get to the ferry, go across and gather 3 wonderful Grands, we call these “The Middles.” Addyson, 11, Michael, 9, and Dax, soon to be 7. Oh, what a lively group they are. Thank goodness the weather obliged, plenty of sunshine, a little nippy, but nothing to keep this group inside. Roller blades and scooters and the beach, or course!

Tacos for dinner, their favorite, and frozen Hershey bars for dessert, go figure. I thought, well tomorrow, they could have ice cream after mass.

Addyson made waffles for everyone on Saturday morning, her secret recipe! Dax was in charge of clearing the table, we found the butter beside the syrup in the pantry. Isn’t that where butter goes?

We, the Grandparents, were anxious to get up to The Big Store to begin selling raffle tickets for the Texas Crab Fest Golf Cart Raffle, so we took off mid-morning to get started. The kids were ready and willing to help sell. Michael handed out brochures, Addyson instructed folks on filling out the tickets and Dax counted the money after each encounter. I guess they got a little bored between sales, so they were each given $5 to go spend in the store. Dax bought a shark tooth necklace, Michael bought an array of candy and Addyson bought marshmallows – go figure!

I left everyone up there mid-afternoon so I could come home to get some dinner ready to eat after mass. Then came the dreaded phone call.

Security had kicked the kids out of the store! It seems they were running-amok in the store, causing all sorts of commotion. Who would’a thought those sweet angels were raising havoc? Those kids have practically been raised here at the beach and The Big Store is just another familiar place to them. They know Grandma and PawPaw know everyone down here, “it’s okay, everybody likes Grandma and PawPaw,” anything goes, everything is okay here at the beach.

Mommy had to jump in the car and go get the little hooligans. I hope Jan doesn’t post their pictures in The Beach Triton!

Kicked out of The Big Store! “No dessert tonight,” said Mommy!

It will be a while before they’ll show their little faces at The Big Store again. Us too! EVERYONE learned a big lesson.  Sorry Keith, sorry John …

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you. Email: [email protected]
