Armstrong Magic Wins Sunday Scramble

John Milby hit a towering 3 wood into a brisk breeze from 175 yards out to the front fringe on the Par 5 fourth hole. Mike VanZandt and Ray Pietramale had already missed their eagle putt chances on the hole when trusty Will Armstrong pulled his wedge and knocked down the eagle chip from 35 feet to send his team to a 5 under par two-shot win in Sunday’s Scramble. Armstrong, who also sank a 20 footer for birdie on the sixth hole and a 12 foot birdie on the seventh, accounted for four of his team’s five under par total. It’s always a pleasure to play with the even tempered Armstrong. In second place at 3 under par were Texas A&M baseball sensation Jentry Weisinger, George Flores, Pat Kelly and head golf pro Mike Mitchell. Three shots back of Milby’s team were Mike and Aaron Comeaux, Sonny Makin and “Half a Stroke Dewey Jones.” Also three shots back were Jason Pettit, Dabbler Harrison, Hoss Strimple and short game artist Charlie Brannan. Brannan won both closest to the pin prizes with two brilliant shots but couldn’t overcome the lackluster play of his teammates.
