Art! Wine! Cigars!

By Linda Elissalde
Balmy breezes blowing, musical sounds floating in the air, unique artistic displays, and CIGARS! What more could one ask for on a gorgeous September day? The Bolivar Peninsula Cultural Foundation’s (BPCF) 2019 presentation of local and visiting artist was a resounding success! It all took place under Steve’sLanding Restaurant.

Art exhibitions ran the gamut from all types of paintings to jewelry, clothes, tee-shirts, purses, signs and creations made from unusual objects. Remnants of Hurricane Harvey and old guide lights for ships were just a few of the clever adaptations. Sheriff’s Department Captain J.A. Fincher (The oldest Captain in Texas) created pencil drawings of his wife. Everywhere you looked there was something to catch the eye and clutch the soul.

Artist Jamie Dykes from Zavalla, Texas praised Ange Scheible and the BPCF for putting together the event. “This is the only show I enter,” she stated. Then Jamie added, “People here are so nice, polite and supportive.” The musical background provided by Heaven’s Love, Marjorie Grace and Greg Jr. certainly added to a magical seaside atmosphere. Lots of folk walked around holding a cigar, or a drink purchased from Steve’s Landing downstairs bar.

BPCF officers scored a hit with this show. Officers include: President Marsha Fredenburg, Vice President Ange Scheibel, Secretary Azure Bevington, Treasurer Brandi Molaison, Membership Brenda Flanagan, Directors Anne Willis, Margo Johnson, Eve Bradford, Judy Ware, and Member at Large Cat Holtzclaw. They deserve a standing ovation for this successful review. We all look forward to next year’s ART! WINE! CIGARS!
