Back To School FUN

bvumc_0Summer hasn’t really ended yet, but the women of Crystal Beach Bay Vue United Methodist Church are already planning a Back To School fun event for all the students of Bolivar Peninsula and High Island. The United Methodist Women (UMW) have been participating in a weekly reading program at Crenshaw School where adults listen to children read on a one to one basis. “It’s such a joy to be able to sit down with a child and help them become more confident in reading, and hopefully, help them feel more successful in school,” said Rev. Valerie Hudson, pastor of Bay Vue UMC. So, the UMW decided to sponsor an event where they could give students free books to take home and read for their own pleasure.

BACK TO SCHOOL FUN! will be held August 20, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Bay Vue UMC parking lot. There will be free books, free hot dogs, free drinks, games and a water slide to cool off during the August heat. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office will showcase their “Beat the Heat” race car for the public. Students are encouraged to bring their parents and families to enjoy this fun fling before school begins the following Monday. Rev. Hudson added, “We hope to meet area families and see how we can support their children in the coming year.” St. Matthew’s UMC in High Island and Port Bolivar UMC will participate in this happy event.
