Bamboozled

GO's Sand BucketBy Georgia Osten
Hustled, Yep, I think that about sums it up. And she did it with such finesse, I didn’t see it coming, and I didn’t realize I’d been hustled until I got home. We spent a quiet dinner with some friends at Ocean Grille the other night, having our favorite – Fish Tacos! The conversation went round and round, finally stopping on the subject of Darts. Yes, we’ve all played, 40 years ago for my husband and me. He was an avid Dart Player from way back, I only picked it up after meeting him. I remember enjoying it, not good enough to boast about, but it was fun.

Well, you guessed it, they talked us into going over to the Eagles to play a few rounds. My husband jumped right into it and I sulked a bit because I didn’t really want to be there. I recognized a friend I don’t see too often and she kind of talked me into playing a game. It didn’t take a lot to talk me into it, I had already thawed out. It was Cricket, which I vaguely remembered playing decades ago.

The game dragged on, many rounds of chilled cabernet were purchased. Here’s where I think she’s also in cahoots with bar management – As I said, the game lingered and the bar tab rose. I was well ahead of the game for quite some time, then, all of a sudden Jacque began to pick up her third 19, 20, 18 and so on. It came down to both of us needing a Bull’s Eye to win the game. The game went on, another cabernet, and I was really getting tired of playing, I figured the Eagles wanted to close down, but somebody told me they stayed open until 1 am. No way was I wanting to stay that late. My husband was already waiting for me to finish so we could leave. (See how the tables turn?)

I began stoking Jacque up, “come on, you can do it!” She finally came through like she could have closed it down an hour ago. I’m on to you young lady, and I’m coming back for a showdown!

GO’s Sand Bucket is only one beach bum’s journal of life at the beach, probably something each of you can relate to. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts, visions and/or feelings of just exactly what the beach means to you. Email: [email protected]
