Blessing of the Animals

By Linda Elissalde
Our pets are a blessing to us. Please join us in blessing them! Bay Vue United Methodist Church (UMC) will hold their annual Blessing of the Animals again this year. However, instead of an inside service, we will hold a special blessing for ALL animals in the Bay Vue Parking Lot. Pastor Valerie Hudson invites animals of all faiths, and their human friends, to this special worship service on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

St. Francis of Assisi believed that animals are a treasured part of God’s creation. Francis had great affection for all God’s creatures and introduced the idea of blessing animals about 800 years ago. Tradition tells us that he created the first nativity scene including animals in telling the story of the Christ child’s birth.

Drive up to the church where you will be directed as to where to park. Pets should be on a leash or in a carrier. You and your special friends will be shown to a tent where they may get refreshments. (Humans may have refreshments also.) Pastor Valerie will bless each of the animals. Please bring your cameras or cell phones. Someone will be waiting to take a picture of you and your blessed one by the church sign. Members, with their companions, may have formal photos taken for Bay Vue UMC’s new church directory.

Plan to come to this wonderful and meaningful event. We will all be blessed!

Drive Up! Get Blessed! Get refreshed!
