Bolivar Point Lighthouse’s Grand Gala

As the Bolivar Point Lighthouse celebrates its 150th Birthday, the Bolivar Point Lighthouse Foundation sponsored a grand gala fundraiser honoring this special piece of Gulf Coast History. The celebration and fundraiser was a sold out event to be held on the lighthouse grounds with a tent, tables, chairs, and beautiful decor. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had different plans and last minute arrangements were made to successfully shift the entire celebration to the nearby Port Bolivar Volunteer Fire Department building.

The celebration and fundraiser was a sold out event to be held on the lighthouse grounds, but Mother Nature had other plans.

In a matter of hours, the entire beautifully decorated event was underway with a silent auction, an open bar, a delicious meal, and a huge lighthouse shaped dessert cake, followed by a live auction with many generous donors.

Once the meal was complete, Amy Maxwell Chase, Executive Director of the foundation, thanked everyone for the support and introduced the Bolivar Point Lighthouse Foundation Board of Directors. They received a Certificate of Recognition from the State of Texas presented by Ryan Caruso and a Certificate of Recognition from Galveston County presented by Commissioner Joe Giusti. Amy was proud to announce BPLF has received grants from the US Lighthouse Society and Texas Historical Foundation. They have also received Preservation Texas designation as one of Texas’ Most Endangered Places

The lighthouse has stood strong from 1872-2022, and counting. But it is in desperate need of restoration. The goal is to restore the lighthouse to its previous glory, open a learning center to preserve the history of the lighthouse, and allow public viewing. The upper light section is badly deteriorated and in danger of collapse. The first phase is to remove and refurbish the top with the funds raised at the birthday celebration. The ultimate mission of the Bolivar Point Lighthouse Foundation is to save the 1872 Bolivar Point Lighthouse and share it with the people of Texas.

Bolivar Point Lighthouse Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Texas based non-profit historic preservation organization dedicated to saving the 1872 Bolivar Point Lighthouse and sharing its legacy. For more information, go to https://www.bolivarpointlighthouse.org/

Thank You to all of the generous BPLF Sponsors
